Establishing Rapport To Excel as a Public Speaker
The speakers that touch your heart and impinge and impact the mind know how to establish a very special kind of rapport. In fact, it can be viewed as a very peculiar rapport that requires the public speaker to in a sense throw his or her heart and soul into their talk. Peculiar because the average sometimes even good public speaker is ignorant of this seldom addressed technique. Yet, just as in acting this is incredibly valuable because those who know this skill reach the top in their field. In acting it was taught by a famous Russian teacher and adapted by some acting schools in America. And, I am one of the few who knows the technology and more important how to teach it. In fact, the exercises are so concise; there has never been a student who didn’t get it.
Done well, it establishes a very very powerful connection, an emotional connection that allows people to almost literally be inside each other’s minds and provides a feeling of understanding of how the audience and speaker are thinking alike.
Some people consider this to be impossible, yet you can actually discover the secrets of how to do that with one person or thousands in the same room. How in the world do you make each member of an audience of many feel as though you were speaking directly to him or her?
As impossible as this may sound, it is an invigoration that most crave almost like a drug. The ability to get a public speaker’s audience into that zone or trance is something thought of with envy.
One secret is to be in the zone even before your audience. If you want your audience to be in harmony with you, be harmonious first. Get into the zone you’d like them to be in and they (for the most part anyway) will follow you.
Now, I am not a Pollyanna. I know that certain topics at certain times, especially in the opening portion of your talk(s) are momentarily far from harmonious. I remember well the moments like they were an hour ago during which a member of the audience challenged me.
In fact, it was during my first morning as a trainer when this man yelled out “This is a Crock of …you know what.” In order to establish the rapport that I knew was mandatory to establish, if I was going to succeed, I simply asked him to explain and listened most carefully. After he was finished telling me, I asked him if there was more. I needed to be sure I got it all before asking if it was all right to continue.
Needless to say that bump in the road was in its special way the opportunity for us to get into a great rapport. The rapport with that participant was even a little more special than the rest of the audience.
It helps a public speaker handle what ever emerges.
What is Your Zone?
In my mind I perceive the zone to be God, Love, Spirit …they are to me all synonymous. It is called the Dao in Far Eastern thought. Einstein said everything is energy. Our thoughts are, believe it or not, also energy! And, the best energy is the energy of the universe, the flow. When you mess with the flow you are in deep trouble. When you understand it and surrender, if you will, to it, you will win! Negative energy is the same energy but removed from or put up in resistance to the natural flow of the universe. No law is stronger that this law of the universe.
When you synchronize your thoughts and actions with the flow, you will win the endeavor. Appose it and it will essentially strike you down. Nothing can defeat the flow of the universe no matter how hard they try.
The people who spend their lives in jail for the most part tried their best to defy this law. Like the law of gravity they lost.
Anger is the opposite of the zone so we might analyze it as well. Far Eastern thought says a disagreement and anger only persist when there is a lie in it. Remove the lie and replace it with the truth and you are set free.
As a public speaker you must do your very best to be do and represent the truth. Are you really into your topic? Are you of clear mind? Are you up for the job? In order to have the confidence, the enthusiasm, you need to review your qualifications. This should provide you with a surge of emotional energy. You know that your public speech is uniquely yours and your audience will benefit by hearing you speak.
A legendary hypnotist and teacher Gil Boyne, recommends that all hypnotherapists get their baggage eliminated before attempting to help others. In hypnotherapy and other emotional therapies we are dealing with lies.
Ho do even honest people have lies in the minds? Most baggage comes from our youth. Everyone had the worst upbringing. Our parents were never issued a handbook to guide them and they had their own growing up yet to do. When you rise to the point that you forgive everyone who harmed you in your youth, you will realize that the emotional charge was only your own doing.
While you are not at fault, you made the decision to hold the grudge. Now if the universe is all energy and that energy is all going in one direction, the flow, you have now put up resistance to the flow and got that emotional energy stuck on you. You wear it like a dog that has a tail. Your tail is visible to those who know how to read people. We may be what we eat in terms of our cells, yet most of us ignore the effect our emotional charge no matter how deeply buried, has upon our cells. Wallace Waddles wrote how all disease begins in the mind.
Regressive therapy, which works miracles is about going back in your mind to the events that had pain loss etc. in them and reviewing or even reliving them as an adult today. What happens is you get the charge that you’ve been holding all this time off your chest, so to speak. You are removing the lies you told yourself when your brain was not yet fully developed, when you were incapable of having all the knowledge and experience that would have allowed you to immediately forgive.
That’s the irony of life. The people who know the zone either have eliminated the emotional baggage and or know how to rise above it. The exercises I teach can get anyone above the fray and into the zone. And, I know where you can find the best counselors with the best emotional therapy, for the asking.

Public Speaking Fear to Public Speaking Excellence
Public Speaking fear to Public Speaking excellence by Joseph Clough
Imagine speaking with confidence and charisma being free of fear and anxiety of public speaking.
How would it change your life? What would you achieve?
Public speaking can be a massive concern for many people in the world; in fact there have been recent studies that people fear Public Speaking more than the fear of death itself - which is amazing.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. I too once had a big fear of public speaking, I would become self conscious, blush and feel all the attention was on me. It even grew into other areas of my life and i thought i could never break the cycle, leaving me to feel not good enough. However now I talk in front of big crowds teaching people self help process and transform peoples life and further more I just love being in front of people.
So how can you change your fear of public speaking to the love of public speaking?
Well first of all, it’s all about what’s happening inside of your mind rather the people your presenting or speaking to.
Many people tend to create images of all the things that could go wrong, having negative and doubting thoughts, which leads to the body to create all the horrible symptoms from blushing, sweating, fears and anxiety – but its time to get back the control.
Here are my quick fire tips for speaking confidently with presence:
- Visualize and mental rehearse your presentation being charismatic and successful as if it was a real experience – see what you would be seeing, hear what you would be hearing and feel the feelings of how good it would feel being the way you want to be.
- Changing your focus. People tend to thing think: 'How can I survive this?' or 'I'm going to blush' or 'They think I'm terrible' Instead think: How can I do this brilliantly? This changes our focus at an unconscious level to feel successful and be successful.
- Use eye contact with each member of the audience in turn.
- Getting prepared. Preparation prevents panic — knowing your material well will really boost your confidence and then you can just flow
- Never memorize your speech word for word, simply know your key points – even create a mind map of those key points.
- When talking imagine projecting your voice over and past your audience – this creates that magical presence as confident speaker and will also allow your voice to have strength and confidence.
- If you make a mistake – who cares, it happens and so what we all do time to time. Simply carry on or correct it without apologizing.
- Be passionate about what you're talking about, a lot of communication is tonality rather words. With passion your will get your message across and your audience will know your authentic and will be left wanting more.
- And finally allow talking to people to become a fun process, after all it truly is if you let it.
Through practicing my tips you will be able to be the charismatic, confident speaker in no time. Keep shining!

Public Speaking Anxiety: Getting Success With Public Speaking
Richard MacKenzie
With the pressures of climbing the corporate ladder and just keeping up with the Jones’s, there are many things that are pushing us in life to succeed and achieve greater goals year on year. While really wanting to succeed and attain our goals we can stumble on some obstacles that may be barriers that keep up from making a success in life and reaching our goals. One example of this is a fear of public speaking; also known as public speaking anxiety. In a recent survey this phobia was put at number one as being the most severe fear that you could suffer from. Just to show you how bad it can be, the fear of death on the same survey came it at number seven!
As a ‘recovered’ sufferer of public speaking anxiety myself, I can empathize with people that are sufferers at the moment. The phobia itself is ‘all in the mind’ however it really does have a physical part to play too, allowing us to sweat, shake and get palpitations – sometimes even just thinking about it! I even remember reading a case history once of a young man in his twenties suffering a heart attack due to the stress and pressure that he was under with his public speaking anxiety. It really can cause a massive effect on the person that it is hounding.
Most sufferers will unfortunately just come to terms with it and allow it to limit them in future life choices such as getting a promotion at work or just giving an after dinner or best mans speech. If you do suffer from this condition you can think back now on just how many opportunities that you have missed out on due to this irrational fear. Some of you may have just tried facing it, only to make the phobia stronger after a failed attempt! Wherever you are at the moment – with the correct approach you can get the success that you both desire and deserve.
I help all of my clients that come to me for help with public speaking anxiety with hypnosis and self hypnosis. In fact in my clinic and with my downloads and my book I have helped thousands to overcome this fear with great success. Simply put – hypnosis reprograms the part of the brain that houses all of the behaviours and beliefs that make this phobia. This part of the brain is called the sub-conscious mind. Hypnosis works on every aspect of the phobia giving the client the results that they want and need.

The Art of Public Speaking - Effective Public Speaking Tips - Overcome Fear & Phobia
Help! I have to speak in public! What should I do?
With public speaking as the world's number one fear, it is not surprising that you should feel this way. The thing is, though, that with a bit of information, you can overcome this. You, too, can deliver high quality speeches, while entertaining the crowd.
A good speech has a powerful introduction, three relevant points, and a solid conclusion.
The introduction can be broken into three parts: A capture, thesis, and motivation.
A capture is something that will grab your audience's attention. Something they can relate to. Sometimes it can be something absurd, or a joke; sometimes it can just be a simple statement that everyone can relate to and will make them think. Make sure, though, that it is somewhat relevant to the topic of your speaking engagement. It is your speech, so think about your audience, and what might relate to them.
Your thesis a one sentence summary of what you want to say, or the point you want to prove. Keep it short and punchy. Don not give away your whole speech in your thesis. Leave some room for suspense.
The motivation should be a call to action, or some sort of challenge for your audience. This keeps them involved in your speech. It can be a statement as simple as "If I can do it, you can do it!" or a question, such as "Shouldn't we do something about it?"
Now that you have finished your introduction, you can move on to the three main points. What the points are entirely depends on your topic. If you want to be really technical, each point can be broken down into three sub points. For some reason, breaking things down into threes seems to be the most effective way of delivering a speech. It makes sense, seeing that a triangle is the strongest geometric structure.
Finally, you can move on to your conclusion. The conclusion, like all the other parts of a speech, can be broken down into three points: A summary, tie in and conclusion.
A summary is just that: a summary of what you have said in the speech. Make it short and punchy. Do not try to cover everything from the speech in the summary.
Your tie in should be a one or two sentence statement that makes reference to your original capture. This is important to bring a sense of completion to the speech. It also gets your audience's attention once again before your final conclusion.
Your conclusion should bring home what you said in your thesis. It should be strong and conclusive, based on the evidence you have presented.
With a proper introduction, three points and a conclusion, your quality speech is complete. The next time you feel petrified about public speaking, take a breather, read this article, and follow the pattern. If you do, you can learn to entertain the crowd while you get the point across.
Happy speaking!
